Management of the Mi’kmaw Economic Benefits Office (MEBO) met today with management at Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Sydney. The meeting was to learn more about employment and business opportunities with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and look at how the department and MEBO can work together to see greater engagement of Aboriginals. Presently in the Eastern Region for Nova Scotia, the Department of Fisheries and Ocean’s has 32 full time Fisheries Officers and five of those officers are Aboriginal.  Over all, there are about 40 employees with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in the Eastern Nova Scotia Region, which includes Cape Breton and the eastern section of mainland Nova Scotia.
